BT

June 2005 - June 2006: BT Group, Research and Venturing, Industrial Placement

This experience was a one-year industrial placement as part of my University degree. I was based in BT's Research lab based in their Pervasive ICT department looking at a range of technologies ranging from UPnP, OSGI, Java and Flash. I wrote a white paper on the current and coming support issues with Wireless (802.11) technology, which was not only a deliverable for the project but suggested recommendations, which potentially could have lead to savings of £1.6M per annum for BT. I also worked with embedded Gumstix Linux platforms and converted an existing Java project into OSGI bundles to run on them, as well as looking at SNMP and TR-069.

  • Removal of viruses.
  • Setting up of network connections on students' private computers.
  • Configuring students' machines for connecting to the University's VPN and wireless service.
  • I have to serve customers face-to-face, via telephone and e-mail.

October 2001 - August 2003: Rogers Newsagents, Shop Assistant.

  • Helping customers and answer any queries they had.
  • I also had to serve customers on the phone, taking orders and answering queries. In addition I was given the responsibility of money handling.

Summer 1996 - Present: Great Wakering Play Scheme, Woodwork Volunteer

I have volunteered to be a helper for a weeklong play scheme for children, whereby I have been responsible for looking after children, aged 5 to 11, doing woodwork activities.

I am interested in a wide range of computer-based activities from OO Java programming to making websites and building PCs, as well as playing online first person shooter games. Also, researching and learning about new hardware and software developments in this fast moving industry is important to me.
